QUEEN ELIZABETH HIRES FIRST EVER BLACK ASSISTANT

A new personal assistant selected by the Queen is set to become the first black equerry in British history. Ghanaian-born Major Nana Kofi Twumasi-Ankrah has been chosen for the role, one of the most important positions in the royal household.
.

The Queen’s Equerry is an officer from one of the armed services, who takes on the role for three years. Major Twumasi-Ankrah moved to the UK from Ghana with his parents in 1982 and studied at Queen Mary University of London and the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.

He became the first black British Army Officer to be commissioned into the Household Cavalry, and acted as escort commander for the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011.

The timing of his appointment is significant as the Duke of Edinburgh is to retire from his duties later this year. Twumasi-Ankrah is likely to become the most visible man by the Queen’s side.

PARENTS LAMENT TORTURE OF 11-YEAR-OLD PUPIL AT COMMAND SCHOOL

Barely nine months into his stay at the Command Secondary School, Ibadan, Oyo State, an 11-year-old JSS 1 pupil, Israel Dada, is down with illness after alleged serial torture in the hands of senior pupils of the school, Punchng reports.
.
.
It was learnt that each time they were punished by the senior pupils, they would be threatened with stiffer punishment if the torture was reported to the school authorities and their parents.
.
.
It was gathered that matter came to a head on Friday, June 23, when Israel’s father was called on the telephone to come and pick his ailing son. Hitherto chubby Israel was said to have grown lean and had to be rushed to a hospital, where he was admitted and given medication.
.
.
Israel explained that three days before he fell sick, one Stephen, his hostel mate, who was in SSS I, had complained about a missing wristwatch and summoned all the junior pupils, including him. The victim said Stephen flogged them when he could not find the wristwatch on time.
.
.
He said, “He later found the wristwatch. Apart from him, other senior pupils, usually beat us. At times they would punish us because we didn’t greet them.”
.
.
The father, Olushola Dada, said apart from the illness, he had observed that his son was depressed. “He removed his clothes and was going to take a bath when his mother saw scars on his back. He was beaten up as if he was a thief,” the father said.
.
.
Israel’s mother, Olasunkanmi Dada, said she was furious when she saw the scars, adding that the matter had been formally reported to the school management.
.
.
The Vice Principal of the school, Mr. James Olatunde, who confirmed the torture, said Stephen had been punished and sent to a ‘guardroom’ to serve as a deterrent to other senior pupils.

LIONEL MESSI TIES THE KNOT WITH CHILDHOOD SWEETHEART

Lionel Messi married his childhood sweetheart today in a lavish Argentinian ceremony.
.
.
More than 250 friends and family – including some of football’s biggest names – jetted to Argentina, to watch the sporting star, 30, marry Antonella Roccuzzo, 29, at the plush hotel complex as an alleged family feud threatened to overshadow the day
The couple, who have known each other for some 25 years, banned mobile phones at the event. Staff were also sworn to secrecy and 450 police officers were drafted in for the big day.
.
.
Samuel Eto’o was the first guest to walk along the red carpet and past the world’s press, followed by Aguero and girlfriend Karina, Cesc Fabregas and fiance Daniella Seeman, Antonella’s best friend, and Argentine national team player Ezequiel Lavezzi.

WHY I’M DEFENDING EVANS – OGUNGBEJE

Lagos lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, has justified his decision to defend suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, a.k.a. Evans, in court.
.
.
Ogungbeje has come under public criticisms for accepting the brief to seek freedom for Evans or have him charged to court, weeks after his arrest.
.
.
But, speaking with Saturday Sun yesterday, Ogungbeje, accused a section of the media, as well as many Nigerians of being ignorant of the law.
.
.
Citing a judgment delivered by Lord Denning, regarded as the most famous and influential judicial figure of the last century, he noted that it was settled in law that “no matter the bases of the complaints of the cause of your crime, no matter how unpopular is the cause of your crime, no matter how bad is the cause of your crime, the legal practitioner has a duty to take up the cause, if he’s properly briefed and provided that person represents his client within the bounds of law.”
.
.
He added: “That is my answer to your question. So, no matter the public opinion, I have the responsibility to take up the matter. We were properly briefed. So, our action is based on law.
.
.
And we want to represent our client within the bounds of law, within the confines of law. So, if you for instance, you’re a journalist, if you brief me… you don’t want me to take up your cause, because people are saying negative things about you, or because people have condemned you and found you guilty before the media, that I should not take up your case?
.
.
Look, let me tell you right away. We were briefed two weeks ago. And I told them to give me two weeks to think, whether I would take up the brief or not. I did my consultations.
We consulted even journalists, you can go and make enquiries. I consulted my people. I consulted senior lawyers. So, have I done what is wrong by taking the cause of my clients? Forget what people say in the court of public of opinion.”

MY DAUGHTER HAS NEVER SEEN HER FATHER BEFORE, SHE KEEPS ASKING ME ABOUT HIM – UCHE OGBODO

Nollywood actress and mother of one, Uche Ogbodo, had a failed marriage with ex-Nigerian Footballer, Ato Ubby. The marriage crashed after a couple of months.
.
.
In a recent interview with Vanguardngr, she spoke about life as a single mom. She said: “As a single mother, life is more fulfilling than it would have been as a single girl without a child.
.
.
I’m still hoping to find that wonderful human being that would fill the remaining part of my needs. I’m open to anything. Yes, I’m dating, but I haven’t found the one.
.
.
Back in the days, I used to say this is the kind of man I want and all that but you know, we’re women and when a different kind of man comes and lies to you, you just fall head over heels.
.
.
In the past, I always painted pictures, but eventually I fell for the wrong person. So, let God give me the kind of man that he knows is best for me.”
.
.
On her relationship with your ex, she said: “We’re not talking. He doesn’t keep in touch, but that’s fine.”
On what fame has robber her of, she said: “Fame has also brought me negative attention from guys in the area of relationship. People tend to fall in love with the you on TV and not the real you.
.
.
And when they get to know the real you, they might not like it, but still stick around just because you’re famous. And then you end up hurting each other, because the relationship is fake and based on fantasy.”
.
.
On the babymama trend, she said: “I’m a single mother already. It happened by fate. I never wanted it to happen this way. I wanted to be married. I think it’s an individual thing. I don’t judge people.
.
.
I want to get married. I need a partner in my life, because I don’t think I want to spend the rest of my life alone with my children. Even at this age, my daughter keeps asking me about her father. She has never seen him.
.
.
This isn’t what I want and it hurts me sometimes. But what can I do and I am hoping that I can get a good daddy for my daughter. I pray that someday I will be able to say to my daughter ‘This is your daddy’, because every time she asks I never say anything.”

I’M A BABYMAMA BECAUSE MY SON’S FATHER IS A SHAMELESS PRETENDER – ACTRESS AMANDA EBEYE

The actress recently had a baby in Canada and was bashed by many who felt it was ‘bad’ for her to have a child outside wedlock. But in an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, the actress gave reasons why she did not get married to the father of her child.
.

.
She said: “I did not marry the father of my child because he is not my husband and he is not meant to be. I could have been in the most useless relationship right now if I wanted but I told myself instead of giving my son this shameless pretender and liar of a man as a father, I would take care of him and he will be fine.
.
.
I tell you that since I took that stance, I’ve not looked back for one day and God keeps giving me the strength to move on. If it is God’s, one day a good man will come and you’ll be invited to my wedding but for now, I’m single and all that matters to me is my son.”
.
.
Reacting to the backlash she received after welcoming her baby, she said: “I didn’t feel bad because we are all entitled to our opinions. Most people don’t know what other people go through but they are fast to bury them.
.
.
We all hide behind our beautiful make-up and clothes that people forget that we all cry sometimes. And the most painful part is that it is mostly women that do these criticisms.

Some are even going through worse situations but they come on social media, wearing make-up and fine clothes and start commenting but when they go home, their husbands would slap them for not cooking their food early, and they receive it with smiles, walk away and say I’m fighting for my man. Hypocrites!”

VIRTUALLY ALL OF MY MARRIED COLLEAGUES STILL CHEAT – ACTRESS SAPPHIRE OGODO

The actress made the affirmative disclosure in a recent interview with SunNews. She said most of her colleague’s marriages are breaking up because they are arrogant and unfaithful to their spouses.

.
“Most of these celebrities never wanted marriage, they just wanted to try and see if the society would accept them. When they are with their spouses, they would keep other men in different places to satisfy themselves.
.
They are always with one Senator or the other, or attending one society party or the other. After seeing and mingling with all those big men, they get home and their husband says one thing, they respond with one thousand things because they are not seeing the sexiness in him again. We need to retrace our steps,” she added.

.
.
On the issue of domestic violence, the mother of two said: “Women should generally learn how to be submissive to their husbands. The feminist and ego raves have taken over the industry. Every woman wants to be a man and be in charge.

.
.
Your husband raises his hand on you, for nothing? No! He can’t. He is not a beast. Tell us, what did you do? Already you are an actress, so your husband always have it in mind that you have tendencies to cheat, so he is always on the look out. So, you have to be careful.”

IMO BANK ROBBERY: PUNCH, OTHERS LAUNCH GOFUNDME APPEAL FOR HERO COP

Nigerians have started donating to raise funds for the family of a late Nigerian policeman, Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko, who died after the robbery of a Zenith Bank branch on Wetheral Road, Owerri, Imo State.
.
.
In the 2.58 minutes video, the victim could be seen firing at the robbers before running out of a security post. He was reported to have been injured during the incident and was admitted to a hospital where he died the following day.
.
.
The Punch Newspapers, together with some social activitists, led by Kayode Ogundamisi, raised a GoFundMe account. As of 11.07pm on Sunday, the account, which targets to raise $15,000 for the family, had realised over $7,000.
.
.
Social activist, Ogundamisi, has been in the forefront of raising funds to support the family. Having raised N200,000 for the rent of the Ibokos, Ogundamisi campaigned vigorously on Twitter for Nigerians to join in the GoFundMe appeal.
.
.
One Philip Obin, who replied to Ogundamisi’s tweet, said a friend of his had indicated interest in sponsoring the education of the children. A blogger, Ifeanyi Njoku, said he would be handing over N500,000 to the widow of the deceased cop on Monday
.
The lone survivor of the incident, Attang, said the unbearable cost of treatment at the police clinic forced him to go to a more affordable hospital. He acknowledged that Zenith Bank had provided N400,000, while the injured policemen were at the FMC Owerri, adding that the bank also provided another N200,000 for their care while they were at the police clinic.
.
.
He said since then he had been left to fend for himself. Attang said AIG Lakanu visited them at the FMC on the day of the incident and told them that he (Lakanu) had spoken with the IG of Police, who had approved that they be recommended for promotion because of their gallantry.
.
.
Attang, however, expressed regrets that no word about the promotion had been heard again. The injured policeman revealed further that appeals to the management of Zenith Bank had yielded no result.
