Here Is A List Of The Present Nigerian Ministers Whose Performances Hasn’t Been Felt Since Their Inauguration

Here Is A List Of The Present Nigerian Ministers Whose Performances Hasn’t Been Felt Since Their Inauguration

It has been more than two years since the Senate confirmed the 21 ministerial nominees President Muhammadu Buhari forwarded to it.
The sudden death of James Ocholi, a minister of state for labour and productivity died on March 16, 2016 in an auto crash alongside his wife and son and the appointment of Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed as the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General led to new appointments.

They were replaced with Stephen Ocheni and Suleiman Hassan as  Minister of State for Labour and Productivity and Minister of Environment respectively.
Meanwhile Nigerians have called for a cabinet reshuff due to the lack of activities some ministries.
Nigerian Monitor brings you some of the ministers Nigerians believe are underperforming;
1.) Minister Of Education: Adamu Adamu

The former Daily Trust columnist has been attacked by Nigerians for the lack of activities in his ministry. Not much has been heard from his ministry since he unveiled his roadmap for a radical change in the education sector between 2016 and 2019.
The country’s literacy level has not reduced and other issues like funding, quality, labour disputes and the staggering number of out-of-school children are yet to be addressed.
There were several calls by Nigerians for President Buhari to sack Adamu. More specifically, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) asked President Muhammadu Buhari to sack him because he is insensitive and lacks commitment to reversing the dwindling Nigerian education sector. ASUU added that Mr Adamu failed to engage with the union on its repeated demands and correspondences.
2.) Minister Of Agriculture And Rural Development: Audu Ogbeh

Ogbeh who was a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party from 2001-2005 promised to solve the many problems bedeviling the sector.
His ministry promised to reduce the $32 billion spent on annual importation of food. But Nigeria still spends between $3 billion and $5 billion annually on food importation, with rice importation alone amounting to $6 million daily.
Like Adamu, he also launched a roadmap “The Green Alternative: Agriculture Promotion Policy, 2016-2020,” to boost food production in Nigeria’ but it remains to be seen if the country’s food production has been boosted.
3.) Minister Of Youths And Sports Development: Solomon Dalung

Since he resumed office, his actions have shown he is a round peg in a square hole. He is known for making controversial statements that makes one wonder how he bagged the appointment.
Known for donning khaki and red beret, Dalung who took nine years to bag Bachelor of Law (LLB) tried to settle the leadership crisis in the National Football Federation (NFF), between Christopher Giwa, of Giwa FC and Amaju Pinnick who both laid claim to the Presidency of the NFF,an attempt that was not needed as FIFA had already recognised Pinnick as the authentic.
It was also during his time the victorious super falcons were not paid their allowances and bonuses, he also goofed when he said the Super Eagles did not need to qualify for the 2018 world cup since they could not win it. He was also attacked by Nigerians for his role in the travelling arrangement of the Under-23 dream team for the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.
4.) Minister Of Communications: Adebayo Shittu

The telecommunications sector increased Nigeria’s GDP by 8.7 per cent in 2015 and the ministry also generated over N500 million from Radio Licensing under the Oyo State politician’s watch.
However, Nigeria still loses about N78 billion annually to cybercrime and mobile phone users still receive unsolicited messages and forced to pay for unsuccessful services.
He feigned ignorance of the botched plan of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to increase the cost of data plans.
Shittu alleged he got to know about the move via news reports like other Nigerians though the NCC is within his jurisdiction.
5.) Minister Of Industry, Trade And Investment: Okechukwu Enelemah
He promised to improve the ease of doing business in Nigeria but like you can tell, it is tough to operate a business due to the unfavourable cost of registering a business.
The fact some businesses have closed up shop in the last one year and imports continue increasing has made mockery of every other achievement he might have recorded.
6.) Minister Of Foreign Affairs: Geoffrey Onyeama

The inability of his ministry to successfully find a solution to the violence against Nigerians residing in South African has overwhelmed the success his ministry recorded when it secured the release of Nigerians detained in Turkey following the failed coup attempt in the country in July, 15, 2016.

The Nation’s capital has not been the same since Mallam Nasir El-Rufai stopped being the FCT minister.
Abuja residents wonder if they have a minister as the roads have deteroriated while most of the traffic lights have stopped functioning.
According to a recent online poll conducted by politics commentator, Kayode Ogundamisi, Bello was rated 79% for doing badly, 17% thought he was doing fairly well while just 4% though he was doing very well.

8.) Niger Delta Minister: Usani Uguru

Although relative peace is being enjoyed in the Oil rich region, there is the fear that something could just trigger the militants to return to the creeks to wreck havoc on the oil firms and vandalise pipelines.
Insecurity and militancy still buffets the region.
9.) Minister Of Power, Works And Housing: Babatunde Raji Fashola

He looks to be overwhelmed with the 3 giant ministries President Muhammadu Buhari asked him to oversee.
Power generation in the country has degenerated since he got into office.
Known for his versatility and hardwork when he was the governor of Lagos state, he however seems overburdened with the pressure of the three ministries though progress is being made in the rehabilitation of the Lagos/Ibadan expressway that he hasn’t really delivered in any of the ministries.

How Evans Killed Stephanie Okereke’s Ex Husband’s 86-Year-Old Father After Collecting N15 Million Ransom

How Evans Killed Stephanie Okereke’s Ex Husband’s 86-Year-Old Father After Collecting N15 Million Ransom

Chikelue Iloenyosi, who played professional football in France and Turkey, described his family’s encounter with Evans and his gang as a lengthy hide-and-seek game.

He said one early morning on November 25, 2013, his father who was 86 at the time, was on his way back from their local Catholic church when three SUVs double-crossed him and whisked him away.
According to the football star, that fateful day was the last time he would ever see his father alive again.
Chikelue, who is actress Stephanie Okereke-Linus’ ex-husband, told PUNCH;
“When they took him away, they did not talk to us until after five days. They phoned my twin sister. She was sobbing when she called me that the kidnappers had made contact.
“When we, the children, gathered, my sister called the kidnappers again and they simply told us that they would call back. They did not call back until after another five days just to build our anxiety.”
According to Chikelue, the kidnappers on the morning of the fifth day called to demand a ransom of N50m.
The routine of begging and pleading for the reduction of the ransom started at this point and after many days, they eventually reduced the ransom to N15m.
Chikelue said,
When we paid the N15m, my father was already dead and we did not know.
“What made me upset was that despite how seriously we worked to get him back, my father did not come out of it alive.”
But upon payment of the ransom, the kidnappers said they were not releasing their victim until the family brought more money. But they never heard from the kidnappers again.
However, after four months of investigation into the kidnap, said to have involved hundreds of policemen in Anambra State combing the forest at the time, security agencies got a break when a member of the gang that kidnapped Chikelue’s father, a suspect known as Nonso, was arrested along with three other members of his gang.
Chikelue said at the time, Evans was already a popular criminal well known to the State Anti-Robbery Squad of the Anambra State Police Command.
He was said to be a wanted robber known for hitting bullion vans.
“The SARS boss in Anambra told me at the time that any suspect arrested for any major crime always mentioned the name of Evans,” he said.
According to him, the family had to involve a private investigator in the case at a point when there was no longer news about their father’s whereabouts months after the family paid the ransom.
In addition to this, he said a friend of his based in Israel helped to track his father’s line and traced it to a young lady, who said Nonso was her boyfriend.
“When we arrested the girl, she said Nonso only gave her the phone for safe-keeping, instructing her not to put it on. We started tracking Nonso. At a point, the current leader of the IRT, Abba Kyari, gave us 18 of his men to follow us to Cotonou, Benin Republic because our trace on Nonso’s line showed he was there.
“We got there and the police arrested a young man, who said he came to buy a car. He said the number was not his and that he only wanted to use it to call somebody in Nigeria. The police had to let him go when it was clear he knew nothing.
“Later, we left the Cotonou guy. Again, our private tracker traced him to Lokoja, Kogi State, ” he said.
According to him, he and other members of the gang were said to have relocated there immediately they shared the ransom because many security agencies were after the gang.
Chikelue said after identifying the hotel the suspect might be hiding in, some members of the SARS team in Kogi State moved in to make the arrest.
He said,
“I was in Lokoja for two months with a private tracker before we arrested Nonso.
“When we got to the hotel with the police that day, we requested for the list of the people staying at the hotel. The hotel staff mentioned a “small boy” with his girlfriend in one of the rooms.
“We knocked on the door and the girlfriend came out. He said her boyfriend was in the bathroom. But I was hearing a sound inside. He was trying to escape through the window but SARS operatives were already stationed around the hotel.
“He eventually came out and said his name was Emmanuel. But I knew it was him right away because we had been able to obtain his photograph ahead.
“But because I did not want him to panic, I pretended it was not him and told the SARS operatives in his presence that the person we were looking for was an older man.
“He relaxed and was going inside when I called him and said I wanted to ask him something. I dialled his phone number there and then when it rang, we took it and it showed the name ‘Kidnapper football’. The SARS operatives immediately pounced on him and handcuffed him.
“I asked Nonso if he knew me, he said he did not. I told him I was the footballer whose number he saved with that name. He then asked if I was ‘General’ – my alias – and I said yes.”
“When Nonso was arrested, he became submissive, and pleaded for his life; saying he would provide any information the police needed.
“He immediately told us that his leader was Evans. But he said there was no way we could get Evans because he had fled to Lagos after the completion of the operation. At this point, Nonso kept our hope alive. He said my father was still alive. He refused to give precise information,” Chikelue said
The ex-footballer added that he was very hopeful at that point and believed he was indeed going to get his father back alive.
Nonso, who was transported back to Anambra in the company of SARS operatives later provided the police with Evans’ phone line, with which they started tracking him.
When the police team got to Anambra with the suspect, he reportedly began to plead not to be taken to SARS headquarters in the state for fear of being tortured and killed. He said he was willing to give up all the necessary information.
Nonso told the police that Evans was always on the move after each operation.
Chikelue said,
“We were calling Evans to pinpoint his location but it was all abortive. Nonso was later made to call another member of the gang called Awolowo to inform him that there was an operation.
“But Awolowo said he did not want to do any operation at the time because his wife had just put to bed. Nonso said Awolowo was part of Evans’ Asaba, Delta State group.”
The police later arrested Awolowo and two others.
For many days, these suspects were said to have kept mum.
It was learnt that they refused to divulge any information about Evans, which the police suspected was owing to the fact that they had taken an oath.
In fact, one of the suspects, who was on the verge of confessing was said to have suddenly started acting like someone with a mental illness.
Even Nonso’s girlfriend who was also arrested was said to have refused to give any information that could implicate her boyfriend.
“The most shocking thing was that when the police interrogated Nonso, he said that if the SARS ever wanted peace in Anambra, they should kill the lady. He said she was the one responsible for taking care of the gang and that she helped them buy drugs and collected ransom on their behalf,” Chikelue said.
But he said while all these were going on, his only concern was knowing his father’s whereabouts.
One day, while Chikelue was at the SARS office, he found a sudden ally in an armed robbery suspect called Onyeso, who was detained there.
Chikelue said,
“He pulled me aside and said, ‘My brother, you are a good man because you always give money so that the police could buy us food when you come here’. He said he wanted to give me a privileged information.
“He said if we wanted any result, we should take Awolowo to the backyard and tell the police to shoot their gun in the air as if they had killed him. He said the other one would start confessing because they had indeed taken an oath.
“When the police did this, Nonso started confessing when he was told Awolowo had been killed. He said he would take us to where my father was buried.
“We journeyed into the forest for three and half hours before we got to where they buried him. I broke down and my sister who was there at the time fainted.”
It was gathered that the late Pa Iloenyosi was buried around Nneyi village in Umueri community.
But most heartbreaking was the information that the old man might have been starved or beaten to death.
When Nonso was asked how the old man died, he explained that it was the fault of those manning the hideout where Evans kept the man.
Pa Iloenyosi was said to have been stripped to his underwear, kept in a cold room and beaten regularly in order to put more pressure on his children.
Chikelue said,
“While we were negotiating for ransom, they would call and put the phone on speaker so I could hear how they beat him. My father would cry and beg me to find a way to ensure his freedom.
“We reburied him in at our hometown – Abagana in Anambra state – a few days after we found his body and started the search for Evans. One of the vital information Nonso gave us was that they were on their way to a robbery when they got information about my father and they diverted to Abagana to kidnap him.
So, I was really particular about the arrest of Evans so that he could tell us who in our community gave them the information.”
Chikelue said he was the happiest man in the world the day he heard Evans had been arrested. But he said he was particularly upset when he read that Evans was begging for his life with the excuse that he had never killed a victim before.
“What Evans did to my family was the most painful thing anybody can experience. When I read he has been begging for sympathy, I just laughed. The death penalty for people like him is the only solution. Evans can never repent despite all the second chance he is begging for.”

Sick Veteran Actor, Sadiq Daba Appeals To Nigerians In The Most Emotional Way

Sick Veteran Actor, Sadiq Daba Appeals To Nigerians In The Most Emotional Way

Veteran actor, Sadiq Baba has finally admitted to having issues with his health. Recall news broke a few weeks back that the October 1 actor is battling leukaemia, rumors he debunked.

The ace actor has finally admitted he is indeed having some health issues, pleading with Nigerians to come to his aid.
Mr Daba reveals he lives off a drug called Gleevec, used for the treatment of the disease and gets supplies of the drug free-of-charge from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, courtesy of a donor agency based in the United States. However, if one needs to buy off of the counter, it is quite expensive.
“To get the drug at OAU, you have to go through a process of evaluation. Then you are recommended to the foundation that supplies the drug. But, if you are going to buy it off the counter, a pack of it will cost you about N1.7m. And this will last for three months,” he said, in an interview with a Punch correspondent in his Lagos residence.
Daba’s battle with leukaemia started toward the end of 2015. The disease virtually caught him unawares. At first, he had thought that he was having the first symptoms of a minor ailment.
“I thought I had malaria fever. So I went to a hospital in Abuja for a test. After a series of tests, the doctor was shocked. He told me that what I had was beyond them at the hospital. He advised me to seek help from a tertiary institution. The tertiary institution, in this case, simply refers to a university teaching hospital. That was in 2015.
“Then I went to the Dermatology Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and it was confirmed that I had leukaemia. Fortunately, the disease was not overblown yet. It was still at the early and manageable stage. I was placed on drugs,” he recounted.
But, midway into the treatment of the ailment in 2016, Daba had a relapse and he was hospitalised for about three months. “I was rushed from my residence to the Lagos State Emergency Unit. Again, I was fortunate to encounter a group of dedicated and courteous medical staff there who took great care of me. I was placed under observation for 48 hours and, thereafter, they wheeled me to the General Hospital where I was admitted,” he said.
He recalled that during his stay at the hospital, which lasted two months, the chief medical director of LASUTH came on a ward visit and recognised him as he lay on his sickbed.
“It was nice that he visited the ward at that point because my bill was almost over N1m. The good doctor went on to slash the entire bill by 50 per cent. I will never forget that,” he said.
After leaving the hospital, Daba started attending a dermatology clinic where he met one Dr. Balogun, a consultant on dermatology, whom he described as a “fantastic person”.
Although the doctor placed him on a regular diet of drugs, it failed to solve his problem.
Eventually, she advised him to go to the “only medical centre in Nigeria where leukaemia patients are treated and the right drugs are available” for the treatment of the ailment. That centre is at the OAU, Ile-Ife.
“She gave me a referral letter. But I was scared because there was a proviso that I might undergo a bone-marrow surgery. For the first two months, I could not go to the university simply because I was trying to avoid the surgery,” he said.
While he struggled to overcome his fright, the broadcaster had another relapse. This time, he was warned that he needed to go for proper medical treatment at OAU. Somehow, when he got there the doctors had to skip the bone-marrow operation and he was placed on drugs.
Daba was full of praises for the team at the Department of Dermatology, headed by Prof. Mohiz Durosinmi, that handled his case. “Prof. Durosinmi’s team was absolutely fantastic. Otherwise, I would have been dead,” he said.
The doctors also warned him not to skip the drugs, donated to OAU by the Max Foundation, even for one day. For this reason, he has visited the university from his residence four times. However, wondering what would have been the situation in the absence of such collaboration between the foundation and the institution’s dermatology department, he said, “If the Max Foundation had not been doing this and as a patient, you were to spend money for treatment, you would be dead.”
